Babolat Counter Viper: Score, Specs & Who It Suits

The Counter Viper is a control instrument that happens to hit hard, and it scores 9.2 on control — second only to the Metalbone Ctrl in our database. Coki Nieto’s signature frame grades 8.6 overall, held back not by how it plays but by how much it costs and how wildly that price varies.
Two things came out of the research that you will not find in the search results above this one. The sources cannot agree on the racket’s basic specs. And two of them are not the independent voices they appear to be.
Babolat Counter Viper
The short version
Babolat built the Counter line for players who win points by absorbing pace and redirecting it. The Viper is its sharpest expression: a 3K carbon face, an X-EVA core of three foam densities, a rough 3D Spin+ surface and the Vibrasorb system in the throat. Four of the five sources rate control at 8.5 or above; one puts it at a perfect 10 and places it in the top 2% of a thousand frames tested.
Power lands at 8.1 — respectable, and notably higher than the control-first alternatives. If you want the same philosophy with more forgiveness, the Nox ML10 Pro Cup is softer and easier. If you want more finishing power, the Bullpadel Vertex 04 is the frame to compare.

A note on our sources, because it matters here
While collecting data for this grade we found two sites publishing what looked like independent reviews of the Counter Viper. Their five performance metrics are identical to the decimal — power 8.0, control 9.8, rebound 7.4, manoeuvrability 8.5, sweet spot 9.0 — using the same labels in the same order.
That is not two opinions agreeing. That is one opinion published twice. We counted them as a single source, which is why this grade rests on five sources rather than the six a quick search would suggest.
It is worth knowing as a reader, too: when you check three sites before buying and they all say the same thing, sometimes it is consensus and sometimes it is the same dataset wearing different logos.

Our reading: the honest answer is hybrid — a rounded frame with enough head weight to behave like a teardrop on the smash, which is exactly why different reviewers reach for different labels. On weight, the spread reflects real variation between the 2.5 and 2.6 versions and between production batches; Babolat itself quotes 365 g ±10 g, which covers everything except the 355 g figure.
The practical takeaway: if you have a weight preference, buy from a retailer that states the actual weight of the unit rather than the range.

Counter Viper vs the rest of the Counter range
Babolat sells five frames under the Counter name and they are not variations on a theme — they sit at genuinely different prices and levels.

A warning about price
Across the retailers our sources compared, the same Counter Viper ranges from about €170 to €320 — and on Amazon UK it has appeared above £260. That is a spread of nearly double for an identical racket. Check two or three sellers before buying. It is the single biggest reason the value component of this grade sits at 7.5 while everything else is above 8.
Who it’s for
- Buy it if you counter-punch: you absorb pace, redirect it, and win points from position rather than power.
- Buy it if you already have consistent technique — the extended handle and 365 g reward it and punish its absence.

Verdict
8.6 — control without giving up the smash
Control at the level of the Metalbone Ctrl with a good deal more power behind it. The price on Amazon UK swings hard across the Counter range, so the band below is the 2.6 specifically, not the family.
