The Vertex 04 is the most complete diamond racket in our database, and the sources agree on it more than they agree on almost anything else. Five specialist reviews and 450 verified owner ratings point the same way: brutal power off the smash, better control than any previous Vertex, and a price on Amazon UK that sits well below what a racket of these specs normally costs. It grades 9.0.

There is one thing the sources do not agree on, and it happens to be the number that decides whether this racket suits you. We get to that below.

The short version

Bullpadel has been iterating this frame for four generations. The 04 is the one where the MultiEVA core — two densities of rubber layered together — finally stopped costing the racket its edge on smashes. Across the reviews we read, none placed it outside the top tier for power, and several noted how little effort it takes to get there compared with stiffer frames.

What changed most from the 03 is comfort. The Vibradrive elastomer along the grip and the Hesacore handle draw praise in every source that mentions them, which is not something the 03 ever got.

Within Bullpadel’s own range, its closest rival is the Hack 04, which trades a little power for a friendlier sweet spot. Across brands, the comparison everyone makes is with the Nox AT10 Genius — faster on the smash, considerably less forgiving.

Five independent sources went into this grade, plus 450 verified owner ratings across six Amazon UK listings. Specs come from Bullpadel’s own datasheet. The weighting is identical for every racket we cover — you can read it on how we grade.

Where the sources disagree, and why it matters

On forgiveness — how the racket behaves when you don’t hit the middle — the five sources are further apart than on anything else. One scores the sweet spot at 9.1 out of 10 and calls it generous. Another scores manoeuvrability 6.5 and describes the racket as unforgiving on off-centre contact. That is a 2.6-point spread on a 10-point scale, and it is the widest disagreement we have recorded on any racket so far.

Our reading: the split tracks which version each reviewer tested. The reviews describing a generous sweet spot are mostly looking at the Hybrid, whose shape widens the hitting zone. The harsher assessments come from reviews of the pure diamond. If a source does not say which version it tested, that number is close to useless — which is exactly why we list our sources.

Which version should you buy?

This is where most of the confusion around the Vertex 04 comes from — there are four, and the differences are not cosmetic.

If you are unsure, the Comfort is the safest buy. It carries 203 owner ratings — nearly triple the standard version — at 4.6 stars, and it is the one that shows up least in complaints about arm fatigue.

Who it’s for

• Buy it if you are intermediate to advanced, finish points at the net, and want diamond power without the punishment that usually comes with it.
• Buy the Hybrid if you mishit more than occasionally, or if most of your points end at the back of the court.
