Babolat Air Viper: Score, Specs & Air vs Counter Viper
How we grade, and how we make money. We don’t play-test rackets. We aggregate specialist reviews, video analysis, verified owner ratings and manufacturer specs into one comparable score, and we list every source at the bottom of this page. If you buy through a link here we may earn a commission, which never affects a grade: the score is locked before any link is added.
The Air Viper produces the highest power figure in our database — 9.0 — and it charges for it in forgiveness. Five independent sources and 55 verified owner ratings put it at 8.6: the same overall grade as its sibling the Counter Viper, arrived at from the opposite direction.
That comparison is the useful part, and nobody in the search results above this one makes it. Two rackets, one family, near-identical grades, completely different games.

Babolat Air Viper
The short version
Babolat rebuilt the Air Viper for 2025 with a new mould and a lighter frame — around 355 g with a 265 mm balance. The 16K carbon face and the three-layer X-EVA core give it a trampoline response: stiff outer layers for explosion, a soft inner layer for feel. The result is a racket that generates pace with less physical effort than its weight suggests.
The cost shows up in the sweet spot, which averages 7.0 across sources — the lowest forgiveness figure we have recorded. Every source says the same thing in its own words: this frame punishes off-centre contact.
How it scored
| Dimension | Score | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 9.0 | Highest in our database. One source rates it 9.7, none below 8.2. |
| Control | 7.7 | Adequate, not its purpose. Ratings cluster between 7.0 and 8.4. |
| Forgiveness | 7.0 | Lowest we have recorded. The small sweet spot is the trade-off for the power. |
| Durability | 8.5 | No structural complaints across 55 owner ratings. |
Air Viper vs Counter Viper
Both grade 8.6. Both are Babolat Vipers. They are not alternatives to each other — they are opposites, and picking the wrong one is the most likely mistake a buyer makes here.
| Air Viper | Counter Viper | |
|---|---|---|
| PadelGrade | 8.6 | 8.6 |
| Power | 9.0 | 8.1 |
| Control | 7.7 | 9.2 |
| Forgiveness | 7.0 | 8.2 |
| Weight | ~355 g | ~365 g |
| Face | 16K carbon | 3K carbon |
| Feel | Medium-hard, explosive | Hard, damped |
| Buy it if | You attack, play fast, finish at the net | You absorb pace and redirect it |
The short rule: if you decide points with the smash, the Air Viper. If you decide them with placement, the Counter Viper. Grading the same overall does not make them interchangeable.
Where the sources disagree: manoeuvrability
Four sources rate how easy this racket is to move, and they land at 7.0, 8.6, 9.1 and 10.0. A 3-point spread on a 10-point scale, and the widest disagreement we have found on any dimension so far.
Our reading: the split is about what “manoeuvrable” means. At 355 g the Air Viper is genuinely light and quick to swing — hence the 9s and the 10. But the balance sits high at 265 mm and the head is weighted, so it does not feel agile in fast net exchanges the way a head-light frame does. The sources rating it 7.0 are measuring reaction speed at the net; those rating it 10 are measuring swing weight. Both are describing the racket accurately.
What that means for you: light does not mean easy. If your issue is arm fatigue, this helps. If your issue is being late on volleys, it won’t.

“Is the Air Viper too advanced?”
That is a real question asked in a forum thread that ranks eighth for this search, and it never gets a clear answer there. Based on the data: yes, if you mishit regularly.
Forgiveness of 7.0 is the lowest figure in our database, and it is not a marginal difference — the Nox ML10 Pro Cup sits at 9.7 on the same measure. Every source recommends the Air Viper for advanced or aggressive intermediate players with quick arm speed, and none recommends it to anyone still building consistency.
Who it’s for
- Buy it if you attack from the net, play fast exchanges and finish with the smash.
- Buy it if you want power without a 370 g frame wearing your arm out.
- Don’t buy it if you mishit often, or if most of your points end at the back of the court. See the best padel rackets ranking and our guide to choosing a racket.
Verdict
8.6 — power first, and it does not pretend otherwise
One of the two highest power figures we have recorded, and the forgiveness figure is the price you pay for it. If you mishit more than occasionally, the Counter Viper is the same family with 1.2 points more control.
- Exceptional ball speed on smashes and serves — 9.0, the highest we have recorded
- Light and quick to swing at ~355 g
- Genuine spin from the rough 3D Spin+ surface
- The X-EVA layered core delivers explosiveness without a dead feel
- Manoeuvrability: a 3-point spread depending on what is being measured
- Smallest sweet spot in our database — unforgiving on mishits
- Shape and face material reported inconsistently (teardrop/diamond, 16K/12K)
- Premium price against rackets that are easier to use
