Nox Equation: Score, Specs & Soft vs Hard vs Light

How we grade, and how we make money. We don’t play-test rackets. We aggregate specialist reviews, video analysis, verified owner ratings and manufacturer specs into one comparable score, and we list every source at the bottom of this page. If you buy through a link here we may earn a commission, which never affects a grade: the score is locked before any link is added.

Six sources graded the Equation and they agree on something we have not seen before: it is the least powerful racket in our database, at 6.5, and none of them considers that a flaw. It grades 8.3 — a control frame doing exactly what it was designed to do, at a price well below the flagships.

The decision this racket actually presents is not whether to buy it, but which one: Soft, Hard or Light are three genuinely different frames sharing a name.

The short version

Round shape, 355–375 g depending on version, HR3 core and a 3K fibreglass face — not carbon, and that is the single most consequential spec. Fibreglass is why the ball leaves the face slowly, why comfort is high, and why one source recommends it specifically for players with tennis elbow.

Control lands at 8.2 and forgiveness at 8.1, both with unusually tight agreement. It was named best intermediate control racket by an independent testing body run at a Spanish technical university, which is a rarer credential than a pro endorsement.

How it scored

DimensionScoreWhat the sources say
Power6.5Lowest in our database, and six sources agree within 1.0 point. Deliberate, not a defect.
Control8.2Consistent across every source: 8.0 to 8.6.
Forgiveness8.1Broad sweet spot, the second best of the ten rackets we have graded.
Comfort8.0Sources disagree by 2.0 points — because they tested different versions.

Why there is no owner component in this grade

Amazon UK carries just six ratings for the Equation. Six is not a sample, so we left the owner component out entirely and redistributed its weight across specialist consensus, specs and value — the same treatment we gave the ML10 Pro Cup. Read the 8.3 as resting on six expert opinions rather than on experts plus buyers. The rule is on how we grade.

Soft vs Hard vs Light: the decision that matters

This is where the top three search results leave you stranded — one sells only the Soft, another is the brand’s page for the whole series, the third is a shop’s entire Nox catalogue. Yet the versions play differently enough that one source calls it “a choice between two player types, not two spec sheets.”

VersionStiffnessPowerComfortBest for
Equation Soft35/100 — soft6.48.4 Arm problems, frequent play, defence. The most forgiving of the three
Equation Hard60/100 — medium7.07.6 Players who want direct feedback and have the technique for it
Equation Light6.09.0 Around 357 g — the lightest, and rated highest of all on comfort

The straightforward rule: if your arm gives you trouble, the Soft or the Light. If you play cleanly and want to feel the ball, the Hard. Both Soft and Hard score 8.4 in the source that grades them side by side — the difference is who you are, not which is better.

The Equation sits last on grade and last on power — and it is still the one we would hand to most intermediate club players, because it costs a fraction of the frames above it and asks nothing of your arm.

Who it’s for

  • Buy it if you are an intermediate player who wants control and comfort without spending flagship money.
  • Buy the Soft or the Light if you have elbow or shoulder history — several sources single this frame out for exactly that.
  • Don’t buy it if you finish points with the smash. Power is 6.5 and all six sources agree. Look at the best padel rackets ranking, or read our guide to choosing a racket first.

Verdict

8.3 — comfort and control, no pretence of power

The lowest power figure in the database and a comfortable, controllable racket to play with. Six owner ratings is not a sample, so this grade rests on six expert opinions and no buyers.

What sources agree on
  • Control and forgiveness are its purpose, and both land above 8.0 with tight agreement
  • Genuinely arm-friendly — repeatedly recommended for tennis elbow
  • Excellent value: the lowest price of any racket we have graded
  • Recognised by an independent university testing body as best intermediate control racket
What they don’t, or complain about
  • Power of 6.5, the lowest we have recorded — by design, but real
  • Comfort ratings 2.0 points apart, because Soft, Hard and Light are different frames
  • Weight specs vary noticeably between retailers
  • Only six owner ratings on Amazon UK — too few to weigh
