Juan Lebrón’s frame produces the highest power figure we have ever recorded: 9.7 out of 10, from five sources that barely disagree. It grades 8.5 — the lowest of the three Vipers, and not because it plays worse. It is the price that holds it back.

The short version

Diamond head, 365 g, high balance, 12K carbon face and the three-layer X-EVA core. Everything about this racket is built to hit the ball hard: five sources rate power between 9.4 and 10.0, the tightest agreement on any dimension across every racket we have graded.

The bill arrives in forgiveness — 7.3, with one source describing the sweet spot as “high and small” and noting that off it, the ball comes off the face dead. That is the trade any diamond frame makes; this one makes it more sharply than most.

How to choose: the Technical is the heaviest hitter and the least forgiving. The Air Viper gives you most of that power in a lighter frame. The Counter Viper is a different game entirely — the one to buy if you absorb pace rather than generate it.

A note on the owner ratings

Amazon UK files Viper, Veron and Vertuo together under “Babolat Technical”, and it is easy to end up reading 293 ratings as though they all describe this racket. They don’t: 233 of them belong to the Veron and Vertuo, which are different frames at different levels.

We used only the 59 ratings from Technical Viper listings, which average 4.6 out of 5. Smaller sample, right racket.

The sources agree on power and disagree on everything else

Their overall figures land at 8.0, 8.0, 8.1, 8.7 and 9.6 — a 1.6-point spread. On power they are within 0.6 of each other.

Our reading: the disagreement is not about how the racket plays, it is about how much its demands should cost it. The source rating it 9.6 scores it as a power tool and judges it superb at that job. The ones at 8.0 weigh in that it punishes ordinary players, and mark it down for it. Both are defensible; you should decide which of the two describes you.

Watch which generation you are buying

Three versions are on sale in the UK simultaneously and the price gap is enormous: the 2.5 sits around £123, the 3.0 around £291, and a Soft 3.0 around £250. The two shop listings occupying positions two and three of this search are selling different generations without making that obvious.

The 2.5 at £123 is the value pick and carries by far the most owner ratings. Unless you specifically want the newest mould, there is little argument for paying more than double.
